You’re either planning on dating or you’re involved in a new relationship, you feel confident about many things in your life—your hair, your figure, your career, and your social skills but you don’t feel the same way about your skin. It’s just plain, ordinary, and unremarkable. It’s not the glowing, healthy skin that you would love. It might appear superficial to be bothered by the appearance of your skin, but wouldn’t it be nice to have beautiful skin, too? Well, it’s not only possible, but it’s not as difficult as you might imagine. Just take the right steps, and the skin will heal and mend itself.

Here are five simple steps you can start taking today to create a noticeable improvement in skin health:

1. Experience the wonder of silicone.

Silicone is a powerful way to deal with skin perfections. A basic silicone fusion treatment with medical grade silicon can improve the appearance of skin imperfections like sun damage and discoloration. However, it’s not just for your face but can be applied over your whole body. For instance, it’s effective for improving the appearance of skin tone and reducing the appearance of stretch marks when used over a long time.

2. Consume more silica

You may not have heard much about silica, but it’s an important trace mineral for skin health. Foods high in silica include yellow bananas, high bran cereal, raisins, raw carrots, wholegrain bread, and brown rice. When you were young, your body had an abundance of silica, which is why you had supple skin and glossy hair and great nails. Unfortunately, we lose silica as we age.

3. Wash your face less often

How often you wash your face depends on your skin. If you have acne, then it’s fine to wash it twice in the day, upon waking up and before going to bed, with a mild cleanser. However, if you have normal skin, you only need to wash it before bed to remove make-up and pollutants. If you feel a need to wash your face in the morning, then just
splash it with water to feel refreshed, but don’t use soap or rough towel drying as this will strip the skin of its natural protective oils.

4. Moisturize your skin

You should wash your skin at least once a day, and use a moisturizer within a few minutes after patting your skin dry with a soft towel. A moisturizer doesn’t moisturize skin but traps existing water in the skin and stops it from evaporating. This is why it’s important to moisturize as soon as possible after you’ve had a bath or shower.
Although you may be drinking plenty of water, this is not a substitute for using a moisturizer because the water you consume is distributed to many other areas of your body before it gets to the skin. Dry skin is not a good sign: the skin needs water to stay healthy.

You don’t have to use an expensive moisturizer with mineral oils. Virgin coconut oil has been demonstrated to be an effective moisturizer. A study on whether coconut oil was as effective as mineral oil in dealing with common skin problems like Xerosis (dry, scaly skin) discovered “Coconut oil and mineral oil have comparable effects. Both oils showed effectivity through significant improvement in skin hydration and increase in skin surface lipid levels. Safety was demonstrated through no significant difference in TEWL and skin pH.”

5. Appreciate the benefits of sunscreen.

Many people think of sunscreen as unnecessary for skin health, but with the depletion of ozone layers, we need to shield our skins from harmful sun rays. For one thing, sunscreen has been shown to reduce the incidence of skin cancer. Sunscreen prevents facial skin discolorations, brown spots, red veins, and blotches. It also reduces wrinkling and prematurely aging skin.

Besides these five steps, the best way to improve your skin is to pursue a healthy lifestyle. This means eating healthy a healthy diet and staying hydrated, getting enough sleep every night, and staying away from alcohol, drugs, and smoking.
