Hey guys! I hope you are all staying safe, hopeful and strong during this difficult time. The COVID-19 pandemic has turned all of our lives upside down in a split second but we will get through this. It’s been a little over two weeks since the lockdown started in India but it’s been much longer in other countries. I understand a lot of us are confused and absolutely terrified even thinking about the coronavirus. I cannot even imagine how many of you are living alone and how daunting it can be to wake up every day in these times of uncertainty. Being cooped up in your house can get maddening for some of us. Since I’ve been working from home for the past 5 or so odd years, I think I’ve gotten accustomed to being a homebody. I’m here today to help you guys to make this time a little less stressful. Please read this post to know how to stay sane during COVID-19 lockdown/quarantine.
1. Build A Simple Routine-
Sleeping in is fun I agree but switch to keeping your daily alarm, wake up without hitting snooze. Your routine could be as simple as making your bed first thing in the morning or brewing a fresh cup of coffee or even watering your garden.
2. Limit Your Screen Time-
This is so helpful because social media is notorious to make us feel less accomplished and more anxious. Now is the time to unfollow, unfriend or block pages that adds to your anxiety. Follow accounts that inspire you and entertain you not only during this tough time but during other times too.
3. Call Up Your Loved Ones-
Check on your family and friends during this time of a crisis. We are all trying our best to handle a situation we’ve never been prepared for, so a call from your near and dear ones can ease the mind off your worries for at least a few minutes.
4. Declutter Your Space-
Now is the time to sit and declutter your home, car, laptop, and phone. It could sound silly but it is actually quite calming to do it. Marie Kondo the shit out of your environment and mind.
5. Deep Clean The House-
This lockdown has made me truly realize how much deep cleaning I’ve been putting off all these years. Having two heavy-coated dogs has only added more daily chores for me. To top it all off my vacuum cleaner broke, so that’s great news! The sight of having a thoroughly clean house is very therapeutic.
6. Take Care Of Your Mental & Physical Health-
Personally for me mental and physical health goes hand in hand. If I’m not in the right mental space, my life goes for a toss. I feel more accomplished when I do an hour of strength and weight training. I also get more work done when I workout and I get to blow off some steam. You can start your day with a nice home workout or yoga session. I feel so invigorated after working out so do things that make your soul smile.
7. Eat Your Favorite Meals-
Comfort foods can be as humble as a bowl of your favorite cereal or grilled cheese but make sure you eat more nourishing and healthy meals. I’ve been making so many of them and it’s amazing how food can perk up your mood.
8. Turn To Artists-
If watching Netflix or listening to Doja Cat on repeat will help you get through this lockdown then do it. I’m watching an umpteen number of TV shows these days and listening to music even while showering so if that will ease me I’m sure as hell going to do it.
9. Make Time For Your Hobbies-
If this lockdown showed me one thing that is how much I love cooking. It’s so therapeutic to cook not only all my comfort foods but also try new dishes while trying to ration how much ever I can. I’m itching to play dress up and makeup because come on I would love to play with makeup all day every day.
10. Self Care-
Make time for yourself every day so even if you’re taking care of others or even your pets there’s still some ‘me time’. Remember, self-care is not selfish. For me, I look forward to taking more relaxing baths, mask often (both skin and hair) and drink more turmeric lattes.
So while we’re under lockdown, instead of being depressed about not being able to go out and meet your friends, use this time to catch up on things you’ve been putting off for all this while; whether it is cleaning the house or just a little self-love! Stay safe!
