This year for my birthday, I wanted to go somewhere different instead of the run-of-the-mill resorts or go partying. When I was exploring my options, I was invited to check out Kairali Resorts. Checking their website, it stood out as an Ayurvedic Healing Village. With food made in-house fresh from their farms. Without hesitating, I decided that this would be the ideal place to be and spend the weekend relaxing and rejuvenating in God’s own country.

The resort is located on the outskirts of Palakkad, Kerala and to get there it was an hour flight from Chennai to Coimbatore and then from there an hour and a half trip by car which was graciously provided by our lovely hosts. As we crossed the Western Ghats, the landscape went from dry trees to lush greenery which meant that we had officially entered Kerala. Soon we were going down small winding roads surrounded by farms that could barely fit two cars side by side. As we turned on the final curve on the road, we came to the resort’s grand entrance.

A cobbled road led to the reception area which was on our left which our host called “Poomukham“ and to our right was a gate called “Padippura.“ We were led to the reception and welcomed with “Aarthi, Angavastram, and Thilagam.” Once the rooms were ready, we were led through the resorts, and all we can think of was how green the place was and how cool the temperature felt since it was listed as more or less the same as the weather in Chennai.

A small artificial stream runs throughout the resort runs in front of each room. The sounds of water running will calm the mind. We reached our room, and it was chill on its own, but one can also switch on the air conditioning. Each room has its own Valampuri Sangu (Sacred Conch Shell) which is auspicious and brings in positive vibrations. Loved waking up to the sounds of birds chirping and water running through the canal. The abundant trees in the resort mean no shortage of fresh air. The air itself was brisk all day every day even though it was hot outside the resort. Walking through this place meant a lot to me. Loved every bit of exploring this place.

Next comes the food which was a significant part of this trip. They serve mostly organic vegan food that is prepared freshly from their farms. The resort is 9 acres, but their organic farmlands are huge and grow their paddy, fruits, and veggies which blew my mind. Each meal is prepared then and there and served immediately. They don’t have commercial refrigerators they have a small fridge to store tomatoes and some greens to keep them fresh until cooking. They don’t cook using artificial flavorings like sauces, dips, taste enhancers or too many spices. If you like healthy foods, then this is the place. They don’t serve tea or coffee on a regular basis, but they do serve green tea and plain cow’s milk upon request. I didn’t know this because I cannot survive without my 2 cups of Soy Matcha Lattes every day and got quite a few headaches in this trip.

The chef also did a demo session for us on how to cook wholesome ayurvedic recipes. He used lots of veggies but despite the minimal amount of spices the dishes were super easy to prepare and were quite tasty.

Last but not least is the treatment center aka massage center. I am a sucker for full body massages, and this place has different varieties to choose from according to the body ailments. They are not only relaxing, but they are also detoxifying and rejuvenating to the body and mind.

Overall we had a wonderful but different experience where we not only enjoyed their hospitality but also how to have a holistic and healthy living.
