Today’s review is going to be on the Remington S5500 Flat Iron. I got this flat iron from Walmart because the one I brought with me doesn’t work here in the US. I am someone who religiously straightens my hair everytime I wash it. This was a temporary flat iron so I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on it. So how did the Remington S5500 Flat Iron fare out?

How Did Remington S5500 Flat Iron Work For Me?

The Remington S5500 Flat Iron comes in a sleek purple packaging which not only looks funky and lightweight but it also stands out when I keep it next to all the other hair tools that I have with me(which have the usual matte black finish). I have always used my trusty Revlon Flat Iron and I had a problem with the buttons being inset into the body as the more I use it, the harder I had to press them to adjust the heat settings so when I saw this one, I was happy that the buttons were on the side and not inset.

Once I turn it on and set the temperature, the Remington S5500 Flat Iron takes less than 30 seconds to completely heat up which is just the time it takes for me to apply heat protectant on my hair so as soon as I finish applying, I can start using the flat iron. I apply either Osis Flatliner Iron Serum Spray or It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-in Treatment before heat styling my hair to protect it from the damage caused by the extreme heat. The plates are extremely smooth and it easily straightens hair in just one pass while combatting frizz and flyaways like no other.

The Remington S5500 Flat Iron straightens my hair but doesn’t kill the volume which is great. I always buy flat irons with curved edges which makes it easy to both straighten and curl without leaving dents in the hair. With this it was a breeze to curl my hair and it created waves while adding shine to the locks which was amazing. Usually I spend around 30 to 40 minutes for curling and when I did it using the Remington S5500 Flat Iron, it took me only around 10 to 15 minutes.

Once I am done, the hair doesn’t poof up mid day due to humidity or anything and it keeps the hairstyle in place. People with any hair type can use this with ease but for beginners and those who are new to this, make sure you wear heat resistant glove as it tends to get really hot and the last thing you want is to burn your hands. Overall, when I bought the Remington S5500 Flat Iron, I wasn’t expecting much from it but after seeing the results, I’m really glad I gave it a try. At just under $20, it is totally worth the cost and it gives expensive brands like GHD, Cloud Nine and CHI a run for their money.
